I've been working collaboratively with families over the past 16 years to find solutions to their problematic situations. This process brings challenges as well as contentment to see how a person’s potential and capabilities transform lives. It has been said "you are only as happy as your most unhappy child" bears much truth. In taking the very brave step in calling and making an appointment, many family members report feeling better before their second meeting.
I graduated from the University of Alabama in May 1992 with a Master’s degree in Social Work. I was licensed at the highest level, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, in 1994. Prior to attending graduate school, I experienced some of the same difficulties and life experience that my clients bring to me. My own sense of self-empowerment has led me to work passionately with those going through difficult transitions. I am continually learning and improving skills with continued specialized advanced training yearly. I am still amazed that my best teachers are my clients.
I am passionate about being a part of developing successful outcomes for children and parents. Suddenly becoming a mom for two young children ten years ago generated my love and desire to focus my practice on working with children and families. Play Therapy is an important part of this success as well. I have served on the Alamo Chapter of the Texas Association for Play Therapy board in 2002 and again 2005 to 2008 finishing as Past-President. I spearheaded the initiative to establish the Tallahassee Chapter of the Florida Association for Play Therapy in October 2004. After extensive training and supervision, I received my Registered Play Therapy and Supervisor credential in December 2007.
On a personal note, I am currently married with two adolescents and one basset hound at home. I have lived and practiced in Alabama, Florida and Texas. By far, I prefer living and practicing in Texas. I value highly the cultural diversity here and strive with every client to understand and maintain cultural understanding and sensitivity towards that culture.
